Going, Going, GOLD! Team PANA Philippines Wins Top Prize at 2011 Cannes Young Marketers
~PANA Member Bayer Wins Silver for Outdoor
Keeping a cool head amid the posh red carpet atmosphere and the intensity of competition, Team PANA Philippines’ Justine Ferrer and Angeline Go went for the Gold at the 2011 Cannes Lions Young Marketers competition. And they got it!
The task on hand: Create a new product where 100% of proceeds go to charity. Product must be related to your brand. The Young Marketers were given overnight to produce their work.
The Cannes Lions sets stringent rules on being young, defined as 30 years and under. Having won over a dozen teams in a tough three-day PANA Brand Camp competition to qualify for the Cannes Lions event last April, Ferrer and Go, Del Monte’s dynamic duo, topped 16 other teams from around the world.
PANA representatives to Cannes Lions are Margot Torres, McDonald’s VP for Marketing and Rudy Villar, SM Investments Sr. AVP and Chief Branding Officer.
Having set the goal at Gold after winning Silver last year, Torres says, “I am so proud of the Team PANA Philippines Young Marketers Angeline and Justine. For two years in a row, PANA Brand Camp brings home a metal from Cannes Lions. This means that the training given by the best minds from the Philippine advertising industry are worthy of the Cannes Festival. Truly, the Pinoy marketer is world class.”
Two weeks before departing for Cannes Lions, advertising Creatives conducted intensive training for Team PANA Philippines, including Russell Molina and Tey San Diego of Seven A.D., Brandie Tan of BBDO Guerrero, Cey Enriquez, Mela Advincula, and Niño Gupana of Leo Burnett and Jos Ortega of JWT.
At the first Young Lions Marketers competition last year, Bayan Telecommunications’ Dave Buenviaje and Mei Marasigan of Team PANA Philippines pocketed the Silver.
PANA member Bayer’s “Butcher”, “Carpenter”, “Laundry” campaign by BBDO Guerrero won Silver for Outdoor. Ads by Procter and Gamble “Fashion Laundry” by Ace Saatchi & Saatchi, Pepsico “Bottle School” by BBDO Guerrero, Smart Communications-Department of Tourism “Limestone” by DDB DM9 JaymeSyfu, Pharex “Opera” and “Lecture” by DDB DM9 JaymeSyfu, and FedEx “Changing World” by BBDO Guerrero were shortlisted.
The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is the Philippine delegation, the cream of the country’s advertising and marketing professionals, for a week of the world’s most creative communications. The Cannes Lions ran from June 19 to 25.
For more than five decades an advertising prestige event, the Cannes Lions has expanded its scope in the last few years. For 2011, it renamed itself the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. In 2010, it launched the Young Marketers Competition for client side.
As the world's biggest celebration of creativity in communications, and as the most prestigious international advertising awards, the 58th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is even bigger. Over 29,000 entries and 8,000 delegates from 90 countries are in Cannes Lions this year, the biggest in the event’s history. |
